Itinerary First Half

Upon your arrival at Cape Town International Airport, you will be welcomed by the partners of AAMT.  You will be transferred to your hotel in the beautiful Mother City.  Tonight AAMT welcomes you as we dine at the Cape Town Waterfront.

Cape Town

Today we tour this beautiful city experience on a cable car trip up Table Mountain.  World famous Camps Bay beach, the Castle of Good Hope.  We visit the Grootte Schuur Heart of Cape Town Museum, dedicated to Dr Christiaan Barnard, who performed the world’s first successful heart transplant. Tonight as the sun sets over Cape Town and the African continent, we sail on a yacht out of Cape Town Harbour and sip champaign, whilst admiring the beauty of the city and the iconic Table Mountain.

Cape Town – Cape Point – Hermanus

We ride the Cape Peninsula, beautiful beaches, stunning mountain views, picturesque Cape Point  National Park via Clarence Drive and its amazing scenic views.  Ascending the Sir Lowry Pass, we ride to Hermanus via Gordons Bay, Rooi Els, Bettys Bay and Kleinmond.  If the season is correct, we enjoy whale watching.  Tonight we feast on an amazing seafood dinner at the harbour.

Hermanus – Cape Agulhas

We ride the beautiful scenic roads from Hermanus to Cape Agulhas.  Passing amazing beaches, beautiful countryside with rolling hills of Barley & Canola fields, stopping in at quaint little markets and wine estates.

Cape Agulhas – Oudtshoorn

After leaving the Southern most point of Africa, we head towards to vast and open Karoo.  Our destination is the town of Oudtshoorn.  Famous for it’s ostriches and caves.  Our adventure takes us over scenic mountain passes, amazing scenery, windy mountainous roads.  We are moving inland, away from the ocean and will witness the dramatic change in geography as we pass over one of the longest mountain ranges in SA, stretching over 700km’s.  We marvel at the amazing views as we travel over the Langeberg (Long Mountain) into the Klein Karoo region.  Once we arrive in Oudtshoorn, we enjoy a very informative ostrich farm tour and explore the Cango caves with an experienced cave guide.

Oudtshoorn – Plettenberg Bay

We depart the Karoo town of Oudtshoorn and ride one of the world’s most scenic passes, again over the Langeberg – The Outeniqua Pass, on our way to the Garden route, it’s amazing coastline and breathtaking beaches.  The garden route is South Africa’s biggest natural forest, which is a long and narrow coastal strip of land, about 20 km wide and 450 km long.  You have the Indian ocean bordering on the South and the Majestic Outeniqua Mountain in the North.  A cocktail blend of beautiful scenery, towering forests, lush vegetation and breathtaking lookout points.  Hopefully we spot the dolphins frolicking in the ocean as we journey to Knysna and it’s pristine lagoon, where we sample world famous oysters – Why? Because you will regret it for the rest of your life, if you don’t sample these amazing ocean delicacies.  Tsitsikamma National Park is on the agenda as we cruise towards Plettenberg Bay.  We stop off at the world’s highest bridge, bungee jump where your guide will entice you to throw yourself of this bridge and plummeting 216 meters down towards the Bloukrans River Gorge below.  After all the screaming, shouting and high 5 congratulations (please note that a new pair of underpants is excluded, after this jump, from our tour price – one of our rare exclusions (we suggest you pack an extra pair).  We continue along this beautiful garden of Eden to the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay.  Tonight we fall asleep listening to the Ocean.

Plettenberg Bay – Port Elizabeth

We depart for the friendly windy city of Port Elizabeth and the Addo Elephant National Park.  Today we ride and leave the garden route and proceed onto Jeffreys Bay on the Sunshine Coast of South Africa, with it’s world famous surfing beaches and International Billabong Pro annual surfing event in June.  Here we will disembark for a quick stroll through this surfer town.  You might pick up a bargain item at the numerous swimwear and surf factory shop outlets or just stretch your legs and enjoy a cold drink and the surfer atmosphere.

Port Elizabeth was the arrival Port for the 1820 British settlers.  Named after Rufane Donkin’s wife Elizabeth Donkin, there is no connection to the Queen.  He was however the British Governer at the Cape at the very time the settlers started arriving.  Situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, the province is well known for its industry involving VW vehicle manufacturing, the Calamari Capital of South Africa and of course the beautiful nature, mountains, unspoilt beaches and abundant wildlife.
